Westerhof said, ”If you saw the game today at home to Feyenoord we were 4-0 down at half-time. As s Sparta Rotterdam fan you want to see fight in the team and for them to play in a spirited way.
”Due to our results in the first half of the season we saw little improvement. We did not have the confidence to continue in the current manner considering we still have half a season in which to stay in the Eredivisie.
”We worked well with Alex Pastoor and he played a part in developing the club in recent years but at the end of the day results count.
”Alex Pastoor understood our decision when we told him the news.
”Dolf Roks will take over the reigns for a week and our next league game versus FC Groningen next Sunday but that is only for a week. Then we will look for a new manager.
”Leo Beenhakker is always approached by the board for his advice due to his experience and network. He is also currently technical director. His opinion is important.
”We have possibilities to invest in new players during the January transfer window and you must not forget we also have potential within our squad.
”We decided to take the decision to relieve Alex Pastoor of his duties after the game in order to let everybody know where they stand.”
