The all-time leading scorer for the Dutch national team will miss the friendlies with Wales and Germany after failing to impress Blind with his fitness.
However speaking on his arrival to the Dutch team hotel, Arjen Robben backed Van Persie to return in Oranje.
He said, “Would I like to see Robin return? We don’t even have to discuss that.
“He is a fantastic attacker. He has won 101 caps for Netherlands and scored 50 goals. He is our all-time top goal-scorer. When Robin is fit, he definitely adds something to the team. Why are we even questioning him?”
The Bayern Munich winger, who is the captain of the national team also spoke of his disappointment of missing out on Euro 2016, which could have been his last chance to represent his country at a major tournament.
Robben stated to Metro Nieuws, “Missing Euro 2016 affects everyone’s status, including mine,”
“Maybe I’ve played my last tournament, that’s possible but I believe we can make it to World Cup 2018, otherwise I would have retired from international football.”
“Beforehand I didn’t think about the possibility of missing out on Euro 2016, and when it finally became a reality it was hard to understand,”
“It will continue to feel unreal until after the European Championships. It sucks.”
We will see both of these veterans in 2018.
They are the foundation holding the house of Oranje up. What a mistake it was for Van Gaal to sell RVP.
He will bounce back…
