Netherlands eventually went down 1-0 after a second half penalty to leave their chances of qualifying for next years European Championships in the balance.

After the match, Arjen Robben, who came off injured after 25 minutes, couldn’t help but blame Martins-Indi for the defeat.

He said to NOS, “As captain, I am someone who protects his players, but here I can do nothing else than to say that it is stupid. He let his team down and I find that very, very bad.”

Robben, who will miss the crucial tie against Turkey on Sunday is refusing to give up hope on qualifying for the Euros, “It’s a small consolation that the Turks have a draw. We are third and it’s therefore still in our own hands to get the playoffs. ”

“Everything is still possible. This is a huge disappointment, but the beauty with football is that you always get new opportunities. We must take that chance.”
