Arjen Robben has revealed that Bayern Munich didn’t want him to join up with the Netherlands squad, but he felt it was too important to miss.

robben nedThe 31-year-old winger recently returned from an injury, which was suffered playing for the Netherlands in September, and Bayern Munich hoped Robben would sit out the two friendly matches to ensure his fitness.

However being Netherlands captain Robben believed the first ties since missing out on Euro 2016 qualification were too important to miss and he will face Wales on Friday before sitting out the tie with Germany next week.

Robben told the pre-game press conference, “Bayern would prefer me to stay at the club and stabilise my physical condition but I wanted to be here,”

“But this game matters to me and that’s why I am here. We had a good conversation about it with the coach. We are building something new, this is a new project. It matters or I would not be here.”
