The winger spoke of his joy at being back on the pitch after a long time out through injury. He also commended the PSV fans for their standing ovation when he was subbed off in the 87th minute for Renato Sanchez.
Robben said, “I am just happy to be playing again and I enjoyed every minute and it is special for me to play against my old club tonight. It is the first time that such a thing has happened to me since I started playing football abroad.
“I always work hard during a period of injury. It is not like I sit and do nothing and wait to recover. You have to apply yourself properly to get fit again. I noticed tonight that things could go better in certain game situations but it is a question of finding the rhythm again in terms of playing 4 or 5 consecutive games to get fully back into the swing of things.
“I am satisfied with my performance in terms of being involved in 3 of the 4 goals. I must mention how good the PSV supporters were when I was subbed I was grateful for their appreciation as that does not happen to players too often in such an obvious way so I commend the actions of the PSV Eindhoven supporters.”
Can’t wait to have the captain back
Great to see Robben healthy again but the sad thing for the national team is they only have one game the rest of this season in which they should really need him. That’s in March, away against Bulgaria.
They should not use him against Luxembourg unless there’s a 2nd half emergency (and if there is, then the Dutch have got much bigger problems).
Such a pity he wasn’t available against France…..could have made a big difference.
The question of the year is, “Will Robben be healthy enough to face Bulgaria?” Let’s face it, we have a good group of players, some are better than others and some of those players are young and not getting the playing time. And then there is Danny Blind…What to do with Danny Blind? Cocu? Van Bronkhorst? De Boer? These are all better options! Bart van Marwijk
Totally agree with your comment. I am damn sure – had Robben been there it would have been a different result against France. But still it is not all over. Atleast if we can get him for the rest of the qualifiers, we’ll comfortably qualify for Russia..
