Arjen Robben scored his first goal since returning to Groningen in their 1-1 draw with Arminia Bielefeld.

Robben started for only the second time since coming out of retirement earlier this summer in Groningen’s home clash with new Bundesliga side Arminia Bielefeld.

The veteran winger opened the scoring with a low strike into the bottom corner in the first half before coming off at half-time. The game eventually ended 1-1.

Speaking to Groningen’s website after, Robben said, “It is a moment that I myself have been looking forward to, of course. To be able to play in our own stadium again.”

Robben is getting fitter but confirmed that he still has aches and pains, “I did take a few steps. I am always honest: there is sometimes a bump in it. It doesn’t go up in a smooth straight line. Now and then you have to slow down a bit, aches here and there. It’s not one, two, three, full speed ahead.”

Groningen face PSV Eindhoven in the Eredivisie next weekend.
