The 34-year-old’s current contract in Munich expires at the end of the season and as of yet no agreement has been reached on an extension, despite discussions between both parties.
According to BILD, Robben has expressed his desire to remain at Bayern past the summer but the club are having doubts. They reportedly want to sign some talented younger wingers in the summer which would leave Robben as a reserve.
Bayern doubts that Robben would be happy with a role from the bench, especially after he expressed his anger at starting on the sidelines against Besiktas in the Champions League in midweek. Robben’s salary may also be an issue with the retired Dutch international earning around €10 million a year at the moment.
Talks between Robben and Bayern are set to resume in the spring.
