Van Persie stated how happy he was to return to the national team setup after an 18-month absence.
He said, ”I am delighted to be involved with the national team again and also grateful for the chance. I know the situation that we find ourselves in and I want to contribute.
”I was last called up to the national team 18 months ago so I was not counting on it but I am really happy to be here and to be a part of this national team squad. I worked with Dick Advocaat last year at Fenerbahce and that was great. He is a very experienced manager who knows how to get the best out his players.
”I am excited to be back after a long time and this can only be a positive for me. This is a new challenge and I am happy to have got the chance to return to the national team setup.
”I believe under Dick Advocaat last season I played well in the big games in Turkey against Galatasaray, Besiktas and also in Europe too. I played 45 games last season at club level for Fenerbahce.”
