Roda picked up their first win since the beginning of December, when they beat Heerenveen. Five winless matches later, and they could celebrate a hard-earned victory over mid-table Excelsior, who may begin to peer over their shoulder after this latest defeat.

Milan Massop broke the deadlock for the Rotterdammers in the first-half, only for Roda striker Jorn Vancamp to equalise on the stroke of half-time.

Dani Schahin has suffered some bad press this season for his relationship with home supporters, but will hope to have won over some of the Kerkrade faithful with his goal early in the second-half.

Luigi Bruins was sent off late for Excelsior, to sum up a poor afternoon for them.
