The Eredivisie season got underway on Saturday night with newly promoted Roda JC beating Heracles Almelo 3-1 in Kerkrade.

After a year in the Eerste Divisie, Roda JC’s Parkstad Limburg Stadion was once again hosting Eredivisie football on Saturday night, but the ground fell silent on the half hour mark when Heracles took the lead through Illias Bel Hassani. The midfielder found the bottom corner from the edge of the box after jinking away from his marker.
However the lead only lasted four minutes as Edwin Gyasi leveled the score with a smart finish after playing a one-two with Anco Jansen on the edge of the box.
A minute into the second half Roda JC were in front with Gyasi heavily involved again, as his header came back off the post, allowing Tom van Hyfte to fire in from close range.
Brahim Darri passed up an excellent opportunity to equalise for Heracles, before Roda JC sealed the three points in the final minutes with Hicham Faik firing an unstoppable shot into the bottom corner from 25 yards.
