Roda JC finally have their first three points of the season after a 2-1 win at Sparta Rotterdam.

The hosts dominated the opening stages of the game and Hidde Jurjus had to make a good save to deny Ryan Sanusi after a nice lay-off by Ragner Ache.

However, just before the half hour mark it was Roda JC who took the lead through Tsy William Ndenkge, who headed in an excellent cross by Adil Auassar. Five minutes later it was 2-0 as Dani Schahin ghosted through the Sparta defence before slotting the ball past Roy Kortsmit.

Sparta dominated the second half as they looked for a way back into the game and finally on 78 minutes Robert Muhren pulled one back with an acrobatic finish. The hosts then poured forward looking for an equaliser but they couldn’t find it and Roda JC held on for a much-needed win.

Roda JC climb above Willem II into 17th, while Sparta are one place above them.
