The second leg was finely poised after a 0-0 draw in Maastricht, and it was MVV who made a strong start with Benjamin van Leer having to come to the host’s rescue to deny Luis Pedro.
MVV couldn’t reward their good start and on 26 minutes, Roda JC took the lead as Daryl Werker headed in a corner.
After the goal, MVV had to go chasing for a goal but just before the hour mark their captain Nick Kuipers was shown a red card for a stamp on Mitchel Paulissen. Referee Ed Janssen consulted with the video referee before making the decision.
With the extra man Roda JC held out for the slim victory which keeps them in the top flight next season.
