Utrecht have tasted defeat for the first time since November after going down 1-0 at Roda JC.

The visitors had tasted victory in five of their last six matches, and in a tepid first half it was Utrecht who came the closest to scoring with Yassin Ayoub’s free kick rebounding down off the underside of the bar.
In the second half Roda JC midfielder Hicham Faik fired inches wide of the target from range, and it seemed the game was destined to end in a dab draw. However, on 81 minutes a Utrecht corner turned into a swift Roda JC counter attack, and after being played through on goal Maecky Ngombo beat Robbin Ruiter with a low strike.
Utrecht searched desperately for an equaliser, but in the dying minutes Bart Ramselaar fired a glorious chance over the bar and Roda JC held on.
The victory leaps Roda JC up to 13th, while Utrecht sit 7th.
