Rodwell was seen as one of England’s brightest talents when Manchester City paid Everton €15 million to sign him in 2012. However, he failed to succeed in Manchester and joined Sunderland in 2014.

The 26-year-old has now fallen out of favour at the Stadium of Light and is looking to dissolve his contract which lasts until 2019. Sunderland have granted the English international the chance to join up with Vitesse Arnhem on trial ahead of a potential deal.

Rodwell will start training with Henk Fraser’s side on Thursday.
