00stroStrootman suffered what was believed to be a slight injury against Fiorentina last week, and was only supposed to be out for a month after undergoing surgery in Amsterdam.

However speaking to media after Roma’s 1-1 draw with Empoli on Saturday, boss Rudi Garcia confirmed the Dutchman will not return to action this season after his surgery found significant problems in his knee.

Garcia said, “Losing him, especially after a long injury, is a catastrophe for us. The season is over for Strootman.”

The news will have come as a big blow for the 24-year-old who missed the end of last season and the World Cup after a knee injury. Strootman has only made seven appearances this campaign.

Strootman will miss Netherlands crucial European Championship tie against Turkey next month.
