La Gazetta Dello Sport are reporting that Roma want to loan the winger for the rest of the season with the option of making the deal permanent for €8 million.
It remains to be seen whether Ajax would agree to an initial rental for the 21-year-old with the club already losing Bertrand Traore to the African Cup of Nations next month.
El Ghazi fell out of favour in Amsterdam earlier this season, and was banished to the reserves for a month. He is said to be open to leaving Ajax, despite the prospect of regular first team action while Traore is away.
Roma have also been linked with a move for Memphis Depay as they seek cover for Mohamed Salah, who will also be absent due to the African Cup of nations.
