Roma are set to sell attacker Juan Iturbe to Bournemouth next month, and have targeted Lens as his replacement until the end of the season.
The Dutch international only joined Sunderland in the summer but since Dick Advocaat left the club and Sam Allardyce was appointed, the winger has found himself benched. The former PSV star was fined earlier this month for unprofessional behaviour and Allardyce admitted they would listen to offers for the 28-year-old.
Lens has been linked with a move back to the Eredivisie with Ajax, but admitted he has outgrown the Eredivisie, and it appears his future could lie in Serie A.
