Maxi Romero was the hero for PSV Eindhoven as he netted a 93rd-minute winner in a 2-1 victory over Emmen.

Roger Schmidt made two changes to the side that defeated Groningen last week with Mohamed Ihattaren and Noni Madueke coming into the starting eleven for Sam Lammers and Mauro Junior.

PSV dominated from the start and eventually, they took the lead after 21 minutes as a fine team move ended with Philipp Max crossing for Madueke to tap in his first goal of the season.

The home side dominated but couldn’t kill the game off in front of the watching Eran Zahavi, who is close to signing for PSV. Schmidt decided to make changes on the hour with Mauro Junior and Bruma replacing Madueke and Ihattaren.

That still have the desired effect and Emmen almost equalised in fine fashion with Glenn Bijl seeing a free-kick just tipped past the post by Yvon Mvogo.

However, with seven minutes left, Mvogo had a shocker as he let Max’s pass back trickle under his foot and into the net. It was the second error for the goalkeeper in two games, and could have cost his side dearly.

Maxi Romero saved his keeper’s blushes, however, as he popped up to head in the winner deep into injury time. His first PSV goal sealed a hard fought win for PSV, who make it two from two.
