Rutten took over from Ronald Koeman in the summer, but after the match with Utrecht on Sunday, the 52-year-old and Feyenoord are set to announce the decision to part ways after this season.
Feyenoord had been keen to renew Rutten’s contract, but the reluctance of the coach to commit his future to the club, coupled with a number of disappointing performances has seen the Rotterdam sides bosses decide against a new deal.
Rutten has been reluctant to extend his deal due to the lack of ambition he believes the club are showing in the transfer market, with the former PSV boss wanting Groningen midfielder Tjarron Chery during January, but the club would not sanction the deal until the summer.
Feyenoord will now begin the search for a new boss with PEC Zwolle’s Ron Jans and Vitesse’s Peter Bosz two of the early names linked. If they decide to recruit the boss internally, Giovanni van Bronckhorst could be an option.
