Speaking to the NOS Ruud Gullit stated, ”What Hans Van Breukelen said is absolutely not true I asked the KNVB if I could have in writing on paper if there would be any consequences for me if Danny Blind or Marco van Basten left would I then be in a position to renegotiate about my position. Van Breuleken thought that this was a logical step but he refused to include it in my contract and I could not live with that. Our verbal agreement is of no worth.
”Gullit is also astonished that the KNVB did not wish to insert a leaving clause in a contract. I do not understand it a leaving clause in a contract should you receive an improved offer elsewhere is quiet normal in football. Everybody has such a clause in their contract and Hans Van Breukelen did not agree to insert such a clause in my contract ”.
