The striker still has one year left on his deal in Germany but reports suggested that Schalke were looking to sell Huntelaar this summer. A return to Ajax has been suggested, with the 32-year-old stating he was open to a move back to Amsterdam.
However, speaking to Westdeutsche Allgemeine Zeitung, Heidel states that the club have made no decision over his future and rumours of a departure are just speculation.
He said, “There are no reasons to believe that he is leaving us. I have not conducted a personal meeting with him, but neither he nor his agent came to me. There have been reports that Franco Di Santo continues and Klaas-Jan leaves us. But that was no more than speculation. ”
However, Heidel went on to state that any player can leave the club that doesn’t agree fully with the club’s new philosophy, “Huntelaar is a good example.
“In general we can say we’re going to talk to all the players whether they one hundred percent identify with our new philosophy. If it appears that there is a difference of opinion, you have to speak very openly and honestly. The decisive factor is that we have a group of players, which everyone stands behind the chosen philosophy. Along with coach Markus Weinzierl we will now discuss it with all players.”
