The German Newspaper is reporting on Tuesday that new Schalke director Christian Heidel is looking to refresh the club’s squad this summer and Klaas-Jan Huntelaar is not part of the plans.
The 32-year-old has had a frustrating season, scoring only nine times in 28 Bundesliga matches and on Saturday he cost his club at least a point by missing two excellent chances, including a penalty, in the defeat to Bayer Leverkusen.
Should Huntelaar leave Schalke he could return to the Netherlands with Ajax, who have already made their interest known to the striker. Huntelaar confirmed himself last week that he would consider a return to the Amsterdam club, where he scored 105 goals in 137 games between 2006 and 2008.
