The Netherlands have four Nations League ties coming up against Belgium (3rd of June), Wales (8th), Poland (11th), and then Wales again (14th).
Van Gaal has named his squad and getting his first call-up is Bologna midfielder Jerdy Schouten. There are also surprise recalls for AZ Alkmaar centre-back Bruno Martins Indi and Monterrey striker Vincent Janssen.
Jordy Clasie, Arnaut Danjuma, Luuk de Jong, Rick Karsdorp, Marten de Roon and Owen Wijndal drop out after being included in the pre-selection, while Georginio Wijnaldum is not included.
The full squad can be seen below:
its good to see jerdy schouten i wanted to see him for a long time even this year is not his best but lets hope he has something to prove
martins indi and vincent jassen is very weird choice wijnaldum and van de beek werent included because they dont play regularly so whats the point of calling up these two and ignore the future players (van de beek)
luuk de jong deserve also to be there he did very well when he got his chances with barcelona
in the end its van gaals choice so lets see what he is thinking of ..i think he is trying every possible player before the world cup so he can decide which players gonna do well in the system he wanna implement
I am totally frustated by this type of team selection by LVG……there is no needs to be bruno martins indi to be included ,tim krul may also be not fit even justin bijlow is better then him, selection of janssen is another poor decision……i think rick karsdrop/ winjdal, bijlow, and danjuma may be add…..winjlumdum also needs to be included in world cup squad…..some experience team mate are needed
We have needed a little toughness in the squad since Nigel de Jong. For this reason BMI makes sense and not to mention, he played some of his best football for van Gaal in that World Cup. If Janssen pans out, he becomes another option. Our striker/centre forward group is not the strongest or the most well rounded. Karsdorp and Hateboer are very similar players and I think that was just down to who showed the best when it came down to selection. Bijlow is good but hasnโt played in months and with three keepers he can only play one at a time anyway. Cillessen fits best. Schouten is long awaited and it will be good to see how he rotates with Koopmeiners and Frenkie de Jong. Nations League is a tournament but holds no prestige really, this is a great way for your starting 11 to mesh and to figure out who will be on the bench and get a better look at fringe players.
am glad and excited to see Schouten in Oranje….believe edgar davids recommends him as we need a tough ball winning midfielder
Karsdop should be in ..come on the lad just won europa cup. Bijlow is fit again and should be in. Understand danjuma is still injured. van gaal plan something with janssen and BMI and we will see it in one or more of the matches.
