The 19-year-old was forced off in the eleventh minute of Ajax’s 2-1 win over Feyenoord on Sunday, and scans have revealed that Riedewald has broken his left ankle.
He will now undergo surgery which will rule the centre back out of action for three months, meaning the season is now over.
Riedewald has been Ajax’s standout centre back this season, and had featured in all but one of their Eredivisie ties. Frank de Boer now faces defensive issues, with Kenny Tete already out and John Heitinga retiring recently.
