The former midfielder has had a frustrating time since being appointed as the new Deportivo coach in February, only picking up three points from the last eight games with no victories.

Bottom of the table Malaga were the visitors to Riazor on Friday night and it appeared it was going to be another missed opportunity for Deportivo as the away side twice came from behind to level. However, in the 85th minute, Adrián López netted the winning goal for the hosts to finally end their wait for a win.

Deportivo now move up one place to 18th, which still means relegation but they have cut the gap on Levante to five points with seven games left.
