de jong 9Its been a month since the Ajax captain was ruled out with a collapsed lung, but De Jong today returned to full training, and suffered no problems.

The midfielder now believes he may be able to feature as early as Saturday, with De Jong telling the official Ajax website, “I feel good.”

“Today or tomorrow we will decide when I swing into action again. Maybe on Saturday im already in the selection, but an entire game I will not play. I need to build quietly.”

“It is important that i get match practice fast.”

Without De Jong, Ajax managed one win against Feyenoord, but could only draw against Groningen, and Heerenveen, while he also missed the recent World Cup qualifiers.

His return to action will be a relief for coach Frank de Boer, who is preparing his squad for the first time without Christian Eriksen, and Toby Alderweireld.

Daley Blind, Ricardo van Rhijn, and Joel Veltman have all returned to training as well, as Ajax prepare for their first Champions League group match against Barcelona next week.
