Dutch supertalent Xavi Simons has announced that he will leave Barcelona after nine years in their academy.

The 16-year-old has been regarded as one of the brightest talents in Barcelona’s La Masia academy but talks over his first professional contract have not been easy.

His agent Mino Raiola has not been able to come to an agreement with Barcelona and he will now leave the club. According to reports in Spain, the midfielder is heading to PSG.

Simons took to social media to announce his departure, saying, “It’s not an easy day for me.

“Saying goodbye is one of the toughest things in life and I now say goodbye to my home, my family and my life for as long as I can remember. It was a dream come true when I was allowed to wear the Barcelona shirt nine years ago.

“I have experienced peaks and troughs here. My teammates, trainers and the entire staff of La Masía were always there to help me.

“Although I am only sixteen years old, I have also felt the love of hundreds of thousands of Barcelona fans. They once wanted to see me shine in Camp Nou. I can only say to all those people: thanks for everything. You are in my heart forever and I will never forget my time at this club. Now I’m going on an exciting adventure outside of Barcelona, but Barça will be in my heart forever.”
