Leonid Slutsky immediately resigned as head coach of Vitesse Arnhem after their 3-2 loss at Heerenveen on Friday.

Vitesse lost for the fifth straight time in the Eredivisie on Friday evening as they blew a 2-0 lead in a 3-2 defeat at Heerenveen.

Immediately after the game, Leonid Slutsky announced his departure from the club to the media.

The Russian boss told Fox Sports, “This is the first time in my career that I have lost five games in a row. I tried to change the situation, I gave the maximum, but I don’t just have to think about myself. I also have to think about the club, fans and players. If I can’t change our situation, maybe someone else can.

“A month ago I was the hero, but in football the distance from hero to zero is short. I just told the players, I think that was the quietest minute in my life. ”

Slutsky has been head coach of Vitesse since the summer of 2018. Last season he led the club to fifth in the table. They started this season well but they could fall to tenth if results go against them this weekend.
