After retiring, Sneijder was set to have a farewell match at Utrecht’s De Galgenwaard stadium which was set to take place on the 3rd of June.
However, the match has now been pushed back a full year due to the corona virus. It will now take place on the 9th of June 2021, which will be on Sneijder’s 37th birthday.
Several big names from Sneijder’s career are set to take part in the match such as Arjen Robben, Mark van Bommel, Dirk Kuyt, Giovanni van Bronckhorst, Javier Zanetti, Samuel Eto’o, Cristian Chivu, Marco Materazzi, Dejan Stankovic, Esteban Cambiasso and Diego Milito. Jose Mourinho and Bert van Marwijk will coach the match.
That’s nice for Sneijder,
He was a great player for years. There is a player though that I feel never truly got ‘his due’ or proper International send off- Klaas-Jan Huntelaar, The ‘Hunter’ is the second all-time international goal-scorer and his playing minutes were much less than others. Am I missing something regarding Huntelaar- I think he’s one of the best to ever wear orange.
