Rene Hake is currently in charge of Utrecht until the end of the season, but Mark van Bommel is being linked with the role in the summer. Wesley Sneijder’s name has been put forward as a possible assistant.
Speaking to NOS, Sneijder said, “Utrecht can always call me. A great club, with a lot of ambition. And it remains my city. But I also know what I am like. When I join something, I want to have something to say. I shouldn’t feel like I’m the fifth wheel on the car.”
Sneijder is working on getting his coaching badges at the moment, and would not be able to be head coach at the moment, but he is open to working with van Bommel, “I’ve known Mark about half of my life. And I’ve always worked wonderfully with him. Let me put it this way: if they approach us from Utrecht, I am in any case positive.”
Sneijder said on Hake, “That is a special situation. Compare it with a deputy director who suddenly has to take over from the big boss after years.”
The former midfielder believes that John van den Brom is not missed within the club, “Everyone is happy that he is gone.”
