sneijmexReports in the UK on Wednesday suggested that Southampton were in pole position to sign the 30-year-old for around £9 million as Galatasaray looked to offload the high earning midfielder to ease their financial problems.

However speaking to the media Southampton coach Ronald Koeman denied the rumours and stated they could not afford the former Inter Milan star’s wages.

Koeman said, “I’m interested, but I know we can’t pay him. There’s nothing in it.”

Sneijder has been with Galatasaray since 2013, but over the past few months Manchester United have been heavily linked with signing the Dutch international, while reports from VI suggested on Tuesday that Manchester City were in talks with his agent.
