Southampton have completed the signing of Celtic centre back Virgil van Dijk for a fee of around £11.5 million.

van dijk celtic southThe 24-year-old underwent his medical at the Premier League club on Monday night, and has now signed his five-year-deal with Southampton. The moves bring’s months of speculation to an end, with Van Dijk linked with an exit from Celtic Park for most of the last year.

Van Dijk told the official Southampton website, “I’m delighted. It was a very easy decision. This is a very ambitious club, who have been doing very well in the last couple of years. It’s a great place to be and it’s the right step for me.”

Van Dijk joined the Scottish champions back in 2013 from Groningen, with the centre back going onto impress in his 114 appearances for Celtic, netting 15 goals.

The centre back becomes the third Dutchman in Ronald Koeman’s squad after the signings of Maarten Stekelenburg and Jordy Clasie earlier this summer.
