stekSaints’ current number one keeper Fraser Forster has suffered a broken kneecap and will miss the rest of the season and the start of next season.

Stekelenburg has previously worked with Ronald Koeman while he was in charge of Ajax from 2001 – 2006, and De Telegraaf believes he could be an obvious option to solve Southampton’s goalkeeping issue.

The 54 time capped international has largely had a frustrating time at Monaco and said this a few weeks ago, “At the moment I Do not have too much to like. I would first wait what Monaco do and then we will look further. I do not care where, I just want to play.”
