The 34-year-old is out of contract in Turkey at the end of the season, and Feyenoord were reportedly keen to bring the forward, who spent three years at the club between 2003 and 2006, back to De Kuip for the last few years of his career.
However according to Eurosport Turkey, Southampton coach Ronald Koeman hopes to trump his former club and offer Kuyt a return to the Premier League, where he starred for six years at Liverpool before moving to Turkey in 2012. The report states that Koeman has already been in contact with Kuyt in a bid to convince him to move to Saint Mary’s.
Kuyt is currently in his third season with Fenerbahce where he has netted 27 times in 99 appearances, taking his career club goal-scoring record to 247 goals in 691 games. The forward made 104 appearances for Netherlands national team, but announced his international retirement earlier this month.
