Sparta Rotterdam are top of the Eredivisie after coming from behind to defeat VVV Venlo 4-1.

Sparta Rotterdam impressed in their 2-2 draw at Feyenoord last week and they were favourites for the clash with VVV Venlo.

However, the visitors threw a spanner in the works when Peter van Ooijen curled an excellent free-kick into the top corner after 20 minutes.

Sparta went looking for the equaliser which eventually came in the 56th minute. Hilal Dervisoglu raced into the box before finding the bottom corner with a low strike. A first Eredivisie goal for the winger, who this week sealed a move to Brentford which will go ahead on the 1st of January.

Five minutes later, Sparta had the lead when Abdou Harroui set up Ragner Ache for a tap-in. Harroui then made it 3-1 with an excellent header from Bryan Smeets cross.

Lars Veldwijk came off the bench to nod in the fourth goal late on as Sparta eased to a victory which moves them top of the table.
