The game was due to take place on Sunday but storm Ciara saw it postponed until Tuesday evening.
In the fourth minute, Sparta came close to making it 1-0 but Patrick Joosten’s effort came back off the bar. Three minutes after that, Shaquille Pinas gave ADO the lead after a free-kick was headed into his path by Tomas Necid.
The lead only lasted five minutes before Adil Auassar headed in a corner to make it 1-1. Joosten then made it 2-1 for the hosts after some sloppy defending from ADO. Just before the break, it was 3-1 as Bart Vriends finished a Dante Rigo corner.
The second half was simple for Sparta until the 67th minute when Crysencio Summerville raced onto an excellent pass by Lex Immers before finding the net in a calm fashion.
Sparta then created a number of chances but Rigo hit the bar from a free-kick before Jeffry Fortes headed a great chance wide. Eventually, in injury time, Abdou Harroui eased all the tension with a goal on the counter.
The victory means Sparta climbs to 11th while ADO Den Haag remains second bottom.
With Den Haag, I feel as though Ricardo Kishna (despite his loan spell having been injury-plagued) is the best player to be on the club’s books the last decade. I know El Khayati was impactful last season, but his ceiling is/was much lower.
I say this because I worry that even if ADO stay up, without another crack at bringing in a player w Kishna’s potential, the club will forever be lost in a state of mediocrity.
I mean how else are this mid-table teams supposed to climb to the top??
