Sparta Rotterdam has announced the signing of talented defender Omar Rekik from Arsenal on loan.

The 20-year-old, who is the younger brother of Netherlands international Karim Rekik, joined Arsenal in the winter of 2021 and has been playing in the club’s U23 side.
Rekik will now gain first team experience in the Eredivisie next season after agreeing to join Sparta Rotterdam on loan.
Rekik has played in the youth of Feyenoord, Manchester City, PSV and Olympique Marseille, before a spell with Hertha Berlin.
Sparta technical director Gerard Nijkamp told the club’s website, “Omar is well regarded as a talent at Arsenal, but it is not easy to break through there. He trained with the first team, but it is important for his development to make minutes at the highest level, a chance that is greater at Sparta. Omar is a central defender who is strong in football, but also leads the way in battle and does not shy away from duels. There was a lot of competition to attract him, but we are happy that he chose Sparta.”
