Heerenveen arrived in Rotterdam on a ten game unbeaten run and they took only nine minutes to grab the lead on Friday with Jerry St Juste firing past Ryan Korsmit.
However, Sparta Rotterdam hit back with Stijn Spierings netting his first Eredivisie goal to level the scores on 15 minutes. Moments later the home side took the lead as Craig Goodwin drove towards the byline before his cross was slid into the net by Zakaria El Azzouzi.
A massive error from Mulder then gifted Sparta a third with 20 minutes left as Goodwin’s poor free kick slipped through his hands and into the net through his legs.
The victory lifts Sparta Rotterdam up to 7th for at least a day while Heerenveen are fourth.
To defeat in-form Heerenveen is another great result for Sparta and one, it seems, which was not expected by most neutral observers.
