Willem II started the season in the Europa League qualifiers, but have had an awful campaign since. They went into Sunday’s clash against Sparta with only two wins in 11 games.
Sparta were also too strong for the Tilburg side with Lennart Thy netting the opener after only six minutes. The striker controlled a corner before slotting into the net.
Before the break, Deroy Duarte made it 2-0 on the rebound after Robbin Ruiter had saved his initial effort. Willem II also lost centre-back Jordens Peters before half-time.
Five minutes into the second half, Duarte made it 3-0 and it could have been worse if not for Ruiter, who made several saves. In injury time, Kwasi Wriedt netted his first goal in the Eredivisie but it was nothing but a consolation.
Willem II are 16th while Sparta are ninth.
