PEC Zwolle’s return to the Eredivisie ended with a 2-1 defeat to Sparta Rotterdam.

After 15 minutes, Sparta Rotterdam had the lead with Saïd Bakari setting up an own goal from PEC Zwolle defender Sam Kersten.

Both sides missed good chances before Tobias Lauritsen made it 2-0 on a pass from Arno Verschueren in the 70th minute.

Lennert Thy pulled one back for the home side but Sparta held on to take three points in their opening game.
