The embarrassing defeat to Feyenoord, their worst ever result against their city rivals, put Sparta Rotterdam in 17th place and the club acted quickly to sack Pastoor.
A statement on the club’s website read, “The reasons for putting Alex Pastoor out of action are the disappointing performances this season in the Eredivisie and KNVB Cup.”
Pastoor was named Sparta Rotterdam coach in 2015 and guided the club back into the Eredivisie after winning the Jupiler league. Last season he consolidated their place in the top flight after they finished 15th.
