The former Ajax youngster confirmed the move to Rio Ave’s official website, saying, “If a club like Sporting is coming, that is a good step.”
“I came here with a specific purpose,”
“I wanted to play here at Rio Ave a year, year and a half, then to take the next step. As Sporting then comes … It’s a big club, where you have to work hard to get there. ”
“I was allowed to develop here. It has been a good choice to play for Rio Ave because I’ve gained a lot of new experiences here. ”
On his playing chances at Sporting he added, “I’m not afraid that I’m going to grab this chance now,”
“I will have to adapt, but that’s normal. I hope I will play, but I’ll work hard for it. ”
Zeegelaar started his career with Ajax before spells with Excelsior, Espanyol B, Elazigspor and Blackpool. The 25-year-old joined Rio Ave in 2014 and has made 37 league appearances for the club, scoring four times.
