FC Cincinnati director Gerard Nijkamp has confirmed that Jaap Stam is among the candidates to replace Ron Jans as head coach.

The MLS side are on the lookout for a new boss after Ron Jans stepped down last week amid an investigation into possible racist language used in the dressing room.

Since Jans left, Jaap Stam’s name has been linked with the job and Nijkamp has now confirmed he is a candidate.

He told Veronica Inside, “Stam is indeed on the shortlist, but we have more names. I will soon start the conversations. To put Jaap at the top of the list is a bit premature.”

Stam began the season as head coach of Feyenoord but was sacked in December after a poor start to the campaign.
