Despite missing out on promotion last season, Jaap Stam has signed a new two-year deal with Reading fc.

Stam took over the Championship side last summer and guided them to third place in the table. However, the Royals missed out on promotion in the play-off final against Huddersfield.

The former defender was then linked with a move to a number of clubs, but he has always stated that he will remain loyal to Reading. Stam has now signed a new and improved two-year contract keeping him binded to the club until 2019.

Director of football business Brian Tevreden told the club’s website “This ensures continuity at the club. His leadership qualities are invaluable to us in the new season. “
