Jaap Stam has revealed he rejected an offer from Swansea City after being sacked by Reading.

In March last year, Reading sacked Stam and he spent the next few months without a job before taking over at PEC Zwolle in December.

Speaking to Helden Magazine, Stam revealed he had rejected several offers before taking over at PEC Zwolle, including Swansea City.

He said, “I didn’t do anything for six months, I had a lot of offers, but mostly from China, even from Iran, and also from a Championship club. I almost signed with Swansea, but eventually I wanted to stay in the Netherlands especially for the children.

“I didn’t like an adventure far away without my wife and children. Yes, then PEC came at the end of last year. I didn’t have to think about it very long. PEC is my club anyway.”

Stam will take over at Feyenoord in the summer on a two-year deal.
