Jaap Stam has his first win as FC Cincinnati boss after a 1-0 win over Frank de Boer’s 9-man Atlanta United.

Both sides went into the clash looking to bounce back after losing their first games in Florida last week. Stam was without both Jurgen Locadia and Siem de Jong, but Maikel van der Werff started.

Atlanta United started on top but in the 25th minute, Jake Mulraney was shown his second yellow card, and De Boer’s side had to continue with ten-men.

Despite playing with eleven men, Cincinnati and Van der Werff were lucky not to give away a penalty before the break with VAR spotting an offside in the build-up to a clumsy foul by the Dutchman.

In the second half, Frankie Amaya beautifully gave Cincinnati the lead and that proved to be the only goal despite ten minutes of added on time at the end. JJ Williams also saw red late on for Atlanta United, who finished the game with nine men.

It’s a first win for Stam as FC Cincinnati boss, while de Boer’s side have now lost two from two since the restart.
