Heerenveen’s poor form continued on Tuesday as they were held to a 2-2 draw by VVV Venlo despite a double from Michel Vlap.

Both sides went into the game on the same number of points and still with an outside chance of reaching the European playoffs.

In the 28th minute, Heerenveen had the lead when Yuki Kobayashi played a lovely ball through to Vlap, who calmly found the bottom corner.

In the 56th minute, Jay-Roy Grot got in behind the Heerenveen defence to fire in the equaliser. However, Vlap restored Heerenveen’s lead with fifteen minutes to go as his header beat Lars Unnerstall.

Heerenveen were heading for victory but Maurice Steijn turned to his 17-year-old son Sem, and in the 89th minute, he fired in an equaliser from close range.

Heerenveen are 10th and VVV 11th but both sides are now six points off eighth spot with two games to go, meaning a European playoff spot is now off the table.
