AZ Alkmaar winger Calvin Stengs was delighted to be named in the Netherlands provisional squad on Wednesday.

After an excellent start to the season the 20-year-old winger was handed his first call-up on Wednesday in Ronald Koeman’s provisional squad for the upcoming Euro qualifiers with Northern Ireland and Estonia.

Speaking to AZ TV, Stengs said on the call-up, “Of course I am happy with it. I was my family when I heard it, so that was a very nice moment. My mother was emotional and couldn’t stop her tears.

“How I heard it? I was called a day in advance (Tuesday) By the trainer that the national coach had called him and said that I would be there. “

The final squad is announced next week and Stengs is hoping that he will not drop out, “It will be exciting. It would be even better to make it, that’s what you do it for.”
