de jong 1aSince moving to Germany from Twente in 2012, De Jong has struggled to impress, and so far this season the 23-year-old is yet to score a goal in 11 substitute appearances.

His lack of action, which could see him miss out on a World Cup place, has led to speculation of a January move, with Dutch sides Ajax, and PSV heavily linked, as well as Newcastle United.

Now according to the Mirror, Stoke City have entered the race, with coach Mark Hughes looking to strengthen his attack in January. The English paper also claims scouts from the club were present to watch the Dutchman come on for the final eight minutes of Gladbach’s 2-1 win over Schalke.

Gladbach paid €15 million to sign the striker, and are unlikely to sell in January for less than €10 million, although a loan move may also be an option.
