After more than a year out, Strootman lined up with Roma’s reserve side on Friday afternoon, and played the first half under the watchful eye of coach Luciano Spalletti. Strootman netted the opening goal from the penalty spot before being brought off at the break with his side winning 3-0.
Strootman then took to twitter to express his delight at finally being back on the playing field. He wrote, “Incredible feeling to be back on the pitch again… Grazie ragazzi.”
Srootman played his last match in the Roma first teamĀ on 25 January 2015. He had just recovered from a cruciate ligament injury, but a relapse ruined his comeback and it’s taken the Dutchman a year to recover.
